I have been tuning it though because it's unplayable otherwise, but every time I do it I get really scared haha. I definitely recommend trying to get some lessons, even if it's just to see whether you like it and want to continue with it! I even bought one off craigslist for the purpose but managed to bust a string while trying to tune it. =0 After that I've left it alone.
