Decision Time. This article published on the BBC News site today is pretty interesting. It is about emotion vs rationality in decision making. Things that especially resonate with me are: As Kahneman and Tversky put it: “In human decision-making, losses loom larger than gains.” Loss aversion is now recognised as an important mental bias, with widespread implications. [...] It’s been sitting on my desk for a few days, awaiting beeswax and I still need to paint the sides. I scanned it this time, rather than taking a picture of it and the colours are soooo much better this way. The only thing is, that scanning it in three parts and putting it back together [...] The heaviest snowfall in 18 years apparently! It’s awesome, as even though it usually snows every year, snow in central London tends to melt within hours, but it’s [...] Soooo I haven’t updated since August! I’m so bad at sticking with something (like blogging). I’m so good at starting stuff, just not great at finishing, it’s the story of my life I swear! I am quite pleased with this one, apart from of course the mandatory acerbic self criticism and doubt that plagues me. *sigh* No I actually like this piece, I just feel a bit crappy (and that taints my whole view of the world and everything in it) because I was [...] I actually tried my hand at this ‘layering’ business. I’m pretty pleased with the result! The idea for this painting started when I found a bunch of slides and wanted to do something with them. I sketched the girl and sheep when I was on holiday in Wales (how appropriate). Materials used (LOADS! I’m sure I can’t remember [...] Just me rambling about this [...] The plan is to put these 35mm slides (that I painted and put little hearts and flowers on) in a row at the top and bottom of the painting. Any suggestions on making the background more interesting/textured [...] I did a few sketches and this was the one I liked best. Have already sketched it on a canvas as well (although I can never reproduce the same sketch twice!! And annoyingly enough I always prefer the original sketch grrr. But I’m over it).
